Australian Cattle Dogs are commonly known as "blue heelers", "red heelers" and "Queensland Heelers".
Puppies are born with either black or brown patches (such as patches on the head). Black patches usually means that the puppy will be a "blue" and the brown patches usually are on the "red" puppies.
The color starts to come in at about a week of age. These puppies are starting to color up now. There are 4 blue puppies, and one red one. The puppy with the spot on its back is the only male, the rest are girls.
So why do my "heelers" have tails? Because they are supposed to have tails!! They use their tails as rudders when they work livestock. There are some "old wives tales" when it comes to docking ACDs.. such as "the cow will step on it", "it will get stuck in the gate".. These are a bunch of bull. My dogs are working dogs, they work livestock and we do herding trials. Not ever has their tail ever been "stepped on", "stuck in the gate" or "bitten by a cow".
